Our History
Sugar River Outfitters started in the spring of 2017, but that’s not where its history begins. Even as the owner, I’m not sure I can say exactly when this started. It may have been as a toddler the first time my dad put me up on the stretched canvas of his hand made kayak back in the ‘70s. It could have been the canoe races at summer camp in the early ‘80s. It may have been the 14 days of backwater camping by canoe in Canada in the ‘90s. More than likely the most influential moment was with my daughter as a toddler herself. We spent hours singing songs and playing made up games under our overturned canoe, which I wedged between two trees riverside while it rained. It never did stop raining that day and we were soaking wet when we got to our take out, but I probably knew then more than ever before, this was what I wanted to do.
Who We Are & Our Mission
Sugar River Outfitters is not just me, the owner. It is my family, the community, and all the people who have helped to get it off the ground. I started this business with the idea I could support my family and the community around me while offering a safe and fun service. As Sugar River Outfitters grows, so will our involvement in the community. We hope to provide programs for area youth, be an active member of the USRWA, and cooperate with the DNR & Dane County to further care for and enhance the natural beauty of this river way. As a patron of this business, you are now part of who we are too! Please check the Facebook page for events and updates throughout the season!
Please Respect the Watershed
The Upper Sugar River Watershed is a delicate ecosystem as well as a delicate community. Just as important as taking care of the health of the river, we need to maintain a healthy relationship with all the land owners that border the river. Please respect private property, do not litter, do not disrupt, and always be courteous to those you encounter along the way.
Fundraising
Sugar River Outfitters can be the platform you need to raise funds for your organization. We are happy to help raise funds by hosting and helping plan your fundraiser. The most common fund raiser is a simple “give back”. You, your organization, and Sugar River Outfitters spreads the word about your fundraiser, folks come out and paddle, Sugar River Outfitters gives back the profits of those who go paddling ($18 per Kayak, $28 per Canoe) to your organization. It can add up quick! Please contact Kelly at 608-692-7910 or Help@SugarRiverOutfittersWI.com for more information or to plan your fundraiser.
